3.0.10 - 3-on-3 overtime bugs

Post by Owen »

I have found a couple of significant issues with 3-on-3 overtime. It's supposed to have two forwards and one defenseman at all times. However, the game-winning goal in this box score was scored and assisted by defensemen.

When I reviewed the play-by-play summary, it appears that there were FOUR skaters on the ice for the Rangers during 3-on-3 overtime -- Derek Stepan (F), Jeff Carter (F), John-Michael Liles (D), Jaccob Slavin (D).
Time : 2. Icing by Duncan Keith. Forward Custom Overtime Lineup - Derek Stepan, Jeff Carter are on ice for Rangers. Defense Custom Overtime Lineup - John-Michael Liles are on ice for Rangers.

Derek Stepan moves puck in Hurricanes zone. Pass to Jeff Carter. Pass to Derek Stepan. Shot by Derek Stepan. Shot Blocked by Duncan Keith. Free Puck Retrieved by John-Michael Liles for Rangers. Pass to Jaccob Slavin. Shot by Jaccob Slavin. Shot Misses the Net. Free Puck Retrieved by John-Michael Liles for Rangers. Shot by John-Michael Liles. Goal by John-Michael Liles - Rangers : 1 - Hurricanes : 0.

Additionally, no players received a plus or a minus for being on the ice for this even-strength goal in overtime.

Another bug that I have been meaning to share has to do with the carry-forward of OT lines from game-to-game and scratched players. It is quite difficult to explain but I will try...

Say that Bo Horvat is scratched for the "Game 1" game. He is dressed and included in the OT lines for "Game 2."

Once the "Game 1" is played and everything slides forward, Horvat's spot on the OT lines will go blank, even though he is active. His spot on the OT lines for all other future games remains in tact.

It is like the simulator is still searching for the player who Horvat replaced in the lineup for OT. All other lines are correct.

Hi.

Thank for the report. I have found and resolve both important issue.

Fix an issue where the OT Forward and OT Defense were not carry forward to the next days when you were using “multiple lines in row” option.
Fix an important issue where 3 Vs 3 Overtime was played 4 vs 4.

Thanks. I hope you can address plus-minus in OT as well!

Hi.

My assumption always been plus and minus is only for 5 vs 5. Can you prove me it's use in 4 vs 4 and 3 vs 3 in the NHL?

According to the NHL (http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26374):

A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic.

If you check this scoreboard, players on ice on the OT goal get a +1 (easier with a game with few goals) :

https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/mtl-vs-v ... _tab=stats

You can calculate a player's plus/minus using the following rules.

If a player is on the ice for a(n):

even-strength goal for: +1
even-strength goal against: -1
powerplay goal for: 0
powerplay goal against: -1
penalty kill (short handed) goal for: +1
penalty kill (short handed) goal against: 0

ref: https://sports.stackexchange.com/questi ... calculated

We can concluded that even-strength is considered when both teams have the same number of player on ice, no matter how much and when.

Thanks Jim. I haven't had time to pull this data. You are absolutely correct.
