QSHL Tests

Post by QSHL »

Hi!

It's a pleasure for me to present you some results as I find time to test stuff and to analyse it.

But first, let me present you my league.

We're a 16-team league, totally fictive, with well over 600 players who are all totally made up.

We have very few players who rate 90+ in all categories.
We have some players who rate 90+ in 5-6 categories.
We have a lot of players who rate 90+ in some specialities (2-3 categories). Some are defensive, others are offensive, and some are physical.

We do not use any overall formula, but I'd say our weakest pro players are usually rated in low-60s to high-70s in most categories.

That means there is a 20 to 30 gap between our star players and our 4th liners.

We have a lot of offensive d-man (70+SC, 80+PA, SK, PH).

I realize our goalies are quite strong. When I use the "primary ratings" from Simon's latest leak of ratings, we noticed 5 of our goalies are definite superstars (90+ in average for all 3 categories). We have many good goalies too (80+ in average for all 3 categories). We have 2-3 of our starting goalies who are 75+ as an average.

Y12 to Y16 were played in V1
Y17 was played in V2.0

GOALS SCORED
Y12 : 3.47
Y13 : 3.41
Y14 : 3.38
Y15 : 3.37
Y16 : 3.36
Y17 : 2.95

NHL09 : 2,85
NHL10 : 2,77
NHL11 : 2,73

POWERPLAYS
Y12 : 19.46%
Y13 : 18.16%
Y14 : 18.77%
Y15 : 19.41%
Y16 : 19.81%
Y17 : 16%

NHL09 : 18,94%
NHL10 : 18,20%
NHL11 : 17,92%

REPETITIVENESS IN TOP SCORERS

FIRST SET OF TESTS

Sliders were 45-45-30 for Hits-Penalties-Shots, and goals went from 30 to 70.
Our settings for last year with the V2.0 was at 47-45-50-55.

Over 5 seasons, 7 of the 8 teams have been there 4 or 5 seasons out of 5. That's what I call redundency. Of these 7 teams, only 4 were in for our only V2.0 season.

Our PP average rose from 16% to 28% for the first season, and almost to 35% for the last season.

Our shot average went from 30.0 to 25.1

Our goal scoring average went from 2.95 to 5.40. Actually, in the last season we've reached 6.31 goals/game!!! OUCH!!!

The 2.1 engine has definitely made this game much more offensive.

5 players have been in the top-10 for all 5 seasons : A. Dahlin, F. Johnson, St-Louis, Zuricha, T. Beranek. (2 who've been in most of our seasons before).

5 goalies have been in the top-10 for all 5 seasons in save % : Coronel, Trulis, Caron, DiNovella et Culley. (4 of these 5 guys are in my short list of 5 goalies with 90+ average in the main 3 ratings for goalie saves).

Four of these five goalies have been in the playoffs 4 times out of 5.
The other goalie has never made it to the playoffs in these 5 test seasons.

In the five skaters who've been in all top-10 lists, there are 2 groups of 2 teammates.

Johnson and Beranek are teammates and are meant to play 2nd line, on a strong offensive team.

I'll run more tests using different sliders in the next few days. Let me know what kind of info you'd like me to add here (Simon and/or others).

SECOND SET OF TESTS

Sliders were 47-45-50 for Hits-Penalties-Shots, and goals went from 55 to 60 to 65. My fighting was quite low at 15.

This initial testing at 55 represents the exact same ratings than I simmed with in the V.2.0 version. We had our lowest goal output ever (2.95 G/GP/Team).

Goals 55
6.82 G/PJ
PP% : 34.9%
Shots : 32.4
PIM : 15.7
Hits : 18.8
Playoff teams : MTL, LAV, GAT, LON... PER, SAG, BEA, SHE
Top Point Getters : St-Louis 380pts, S Dahlin 334pts, T Beranek 320pts, Marceau 307pts, Williams 286pts, A Dahlin, Johnson, Zuricha, Tumba, K Lemieux.
Top Goal Scorers : St-Louis 192g, S Dahlin 168g, Williams 144g, Marceau 143g, A Dahlin 142g, Johnson, Zuricha, T Beranek, Tumba, Sauvé.
PIM : Landreville 300
5min PIM : Bourdain 95 (19 fights)
Shot Blocked : Simmons 183
Hits : Suchmann 258
Save% : Coronel 85.4, Ohman 83.8, Trulis 83.1, Caron 82.9, Vojtek 82.7, DiNo, Culley, Rubcha, Drozdov, Haidfeld.

==> We more than doubled the number of goals scored. Actually, these are ridiculously high numbers for our teams and top players. The powerplay is way too high as well.
==> Only half of these guys are amongst our usual suspects for goal and point getters. Yet, these lesser known names have been everywhere in the STHS V.2.1 testings : Beranek and Marceau. These two guys have a very low DU, so getting rid of the fatigue factor sure had an impact on their output.
==> Our league is so offensive that our top scoring goalie got 27 assists! Actually, the 16 starters of our league all got at least 10 points.
==> We're bang on for most D vs F comparisons, except these : D got 19% of goals scored (but had the expected 25% of shots... so their accuracy is too high). D got 42% of the hits, which is 6% higher than wanted.
==> I thought we disabled morale for these testings, but it definitely had an impact. There's a HUGE gap between the top teams and the bottom teams, which reflects in the Team Morale. One went to 99 and the other one went to 5. I've never had this kind of a difference in my normal league.

Goals 60

Goals : 7.25 G/PJ
PP : 34.2% (DOWN)
Shot : 32.6
PIM : 15.4 (slightly down)
Hits : 18.7
Playoff team : MTL, LAV, GAT (far away ahead), ROU (still away of the bottom teams)... PER, SAG, SHE, BEA (slightly closer conference).
Top Point Getters : S Dahlin 410pts, T Beranek 345pts, St-Louis 333pts, F Johnson 326pts, Williams 326pts, Chartier, Sauvé, Lemieux, A Dahlin, Marceau
Top Goal Scorers : S Dahlin 205g, St-Louis 167g, Johnson 163g, Williams 163g, Chartier 163g, Sauvé, T Beranek, A Dahlin, Marceau, Dubois
PIM : Landreville 318
5min pim : Bourdain 100 (20 fights)
Shots blocked : Mikaala 183
Hits : Reynolds 248
Save % : Coronel 83.4, Caron 82.9, Trulis 82.2, DiNo 82.1, Culley 81.5, Ohman, Tanguay, Drozdov, Miranda, Kenady

==> Not much to add other than the fact that the PP% went down with the goals going up.

Goals 65

Goals : 7.18 G/PJ (DOWN?)
PP : 33.93% (DOWN AGAIN)
Shot : 32.5
PIM : 15.5
Hits : 18.4 (slightly down)
Playoff teams : LAV, MTL (113, 105pts) GAT, LON (78, 75 pts)... SAG, PER, BEA (113, 113, 100pts), SHE (78)
Top Point Getters : St-Louis 418pts, A Dahlin 320pts, T Beranek 316pts, Marceau 315pts, S Dahlin 299, Johnson, Zuricha, Lemieux, Sauvé, Williams.
Top Goal Scorers : St-Louis 208g, A Dahlin 162g, Johnson 149g, S Dahlin 148g, Marceau 142g, Zuricha, Williams, Sauvé, T Beranek, Forest.
PIM : Bourdain 295
5minPIM : Bourdain 105 (21 fights)
Shots blocked : Simmons et Djorn 175
Hits : Suchmann 240
Save % : Trulis 83.1, Coronel 82.8, Caron 82.6, Culley 82.1, Tanguay 81.9, Miranda, Vojtek, DiNovella, Ohman, Petitgout.

==> Goals and PP going down while the G slider goes up?
==> D still reaching 20% of goals scored and 42% of the hits. It's been pretty stable on that point.
==> A lot of stability for the playoff teams and top points/goal scored.

Is there a way to sim with 2.0? I have been unable to do so. I've tried twice and it first ran a V1.1 test instead, and then it ran a 2.1 test.

More testing coming up tomorrow. I don't know if this if of any help to you. Maybe you guys want to know more about the ratings average and such? Let me know how I can help the community. I might have a team of GMs here (probably 2-3) tomorrow evening to sort things out faster for me with file transfered on their lap-tops.

Re: QSHL Tests

Post by QSHL »

I've been able to sim with V2.0 tonight (I still don't know why it didn't work last night).

Not much to report here other than as I tried to repeat last year's results, I noticed a more offensive league in general. I guess making lines, switching guys, coaches and stuff makes it more tight in term of games/results.

OK, so back to V2.1 now!

I ran a season using only 20 as my "goals" slider. It didn't work much better than my previous takes. I reduced G/GP/Team to 5.5, which is still too high. We're aiming 3.2 G/GP (or 6.5 for both teams).

I cannot get the PP down only with sliders.

So, I decided to drop all my forwards down 10 points in SC.

I ran the following settings :
Goal : 30
Fight :15
Hit :55
Pim : 35
Shot :50

G/PJ :3.08 (un peu en dessous de notre chiffre visé de 3.2) Slightly under what we wanted, but actually closer.
PP% :24.0 (toujours trop haut. On vise 18%) Still too high, as we aim 18-19%
SHots :27.3 (trop bas, on vise 30) Suddently, we end up with shots too low after being bang on for most of the tests.
PIM :12.1 (Dessus, on visais 12.5) Satisfied here.
Hits :20.6 (Dessus, on visais 21) Satisfied here.
Shots blocked :9.9 (Un peu en dessous, on vise 13) Somehow low.

Best team/Meilleur équipe :MTL 107pts
Worst team/Pire équipe :VDO 32 Pts

We've never had such a weak team in 17 seasons of history. Never in FHL, never in STHS V1, never in STHS V2. I'm not sure I enjoy seeing this.

Top scoring team : 358 goals for.
Worst scoring team : 104 goals for.

Darn it. Now, I get a nice number for goals/game/team, but the distribution is definitely wrong. That's 5.00 G/GP vs. 1.44 G/GP. Quite a difference...

I have exactly 288 players who played all of their 72 games.
150+ : 1
100-149 : 10
90-99 : 7
80-89 : 10
70-79 : 10
60-69 : 13
50-59 : 10
40-49 : 14
30-39 : 33
20-29 : 51
0-19 : 129

It's difficult to compare to the NHL because there are so many players who do not play their full 82 games (or near it). But here's the only info I gathered :

NHL 2008-09 and 2009-10 had 3 or 4 100+ point players, three 90-99 point players and ten 80-89 point players. Considering there are 540 regular jobs in the NHL, it means 0.5% of the players get elite stats (100+), and only 3% get their point-per-game stats through a full schedule and only 4% if I include the oft-injured Hemskys and Gaborik of this world.

In these tests, 13.1% of the players get their point-per-game! Despite showing G/GP similar to the NHL (slightly lower). Someone's gotta give, which means the depth probably is way too weak.

Déf 26%Shots 28%buts 42%hits
==> Obviously, our D score too much (28%, should be 14%). Shots are ok at 26% (vs. 25 in the NHL). Our hits are still a bit high, but I'm more worried about goals than hits right now.

I also ran a test with a "40 goals" slider.
Got exactly what we wanted with G/PJ :3.21
Strangely enough, by raising the goals, we reduced the PP. Went down to 22.7%, which is still too high.
Shots barely moved at 27.2
Hits didn't change. PIMs only 0.1 lower. Got more shots blocked!

The gap between the top teams and lower teams got wider. 128 pts vs. 26 pts. 430 goals scored for a single team!!! Only 105 goals scored on the lowest team.

Again, 6 of the 8 playoff teams were exactly the same as all the other tests, so as far as consistancy goes, it's pretty much to the point.

Got even more defenseman in the top-10 scoring lists, both points and goals.

Again, any kind of feedback is welcome here.

34 guys had 90+PH and didn't make it to the PPG. That's 14%.

85% of my PPG-players have a 80+ SC (either a D or a former 90+ guy before mass edition).
40 guys had 80+ SC and didn't make it to the PPG. That's 16%.

48% of my PPG-players have 90+ SK.

Hi.

1) V2.1 in 2.0.5 was definitely made more offensive. I want top scorer to be top scorer so I gave them a boost.
2) I’m not surprise by your PP Goal % going down by a small margin when raising your goal. There is a mitigation formula that tries to equalize the % of PP goal when changing the goal or shot simulation setting.
3) I’m a not surprise by your goal at 60 and 65 (60 being higher that 65). I see this from time to time when running automatic test. Don’t forget that +5 goals is not big change. If you were unlucky with a big season with 60 and/or a small season with 65, you get the result you got.
4) The shots/goal simulation setting does part of work but the rating are the key in having result you want as you saw it when you drop forward down 10 points.
5) The distributions of point you are getting is exactly what I’m looking for, a logarithm function.
6) In your result, that the difference between the worse team and team before him? (L’avant-dernier quoi!)
7) I’m happy that you are getting consistency!

How much point did the 15th team had vs the 16tn (last one)?

Re: QSHL Tests

Post by QSHL »

Sorry, my 1st language is French and I've been testing and commenting on my own league's forum in French for the whole evening, so I'll copy and paste. If there's a detail that you don't get, let me know here and I'll gladly translate for you, I promise!

50 tirs, 20 scoring
2.91 G/PJ (un peu en dessous)
22.5% PP (trop élevé)
32.05 tirs/PJ (légèrement en haut)
13.1 PIM/PJ (ok)
20.7 hits/PJ (ok)
%shots D 24% (ok)
%buts D 17.7% (légèrement au dessus)
%hits D 42.5% (au-dessus)

50 tirs, 30 scoring
3.33 G/PJ (un peu trop élevé)
24.4% PP% (trop élevé)
32.41 tirs/PJ (légèrement trop élevé)
13.04 PIM/PJ (ok)
20.8 hits/PJ (ok)
%shots D 24% (ok)
%buts D 18.7% (trop élevé)
%hits D 42.0% (trop élevé)

50 tirs, 40 scoring
3.56 G/PJ (trop élevé)
24.5% PP% (trop élevé)
32.04 tirs/PJ (légèrement trop élevé)
12.46 PIM/PJ (ok)
20.9 hits/PJ (ok)
%shots D 24% (ok)
%buts D 19% (trop élevé)
%hits D 41.5% (trop élevé)

60 tirs, 20 scoring
3.05 G/PJ (un peu en dessous)
23.7% PP% (trop élevé)
36.06 tirs/PJ (trop élevé)
12.9 PIM/PJ (ok)
20.6 hits/PJ (ok)
%shots D 25% (ok)
%buts D 19% (trop élevé)
%hits D 42% (trop élevé)

60 tirs, 30 scoring
3.24 G/PJ (ok)
22.77% PP% (trop élevé)
36.06 tirs/PJ (trop élevé)
12.27 PIM/PJ (ok)
20.9 hits/PJ (ok)
%shots D 25% (ok)

BEA, SAG, PER, RIM
BEA 123pts (385-185), MTL 109pts (226-166), SAG 105pts (336-202), GAT 89pts (248-169), ROU 86pts (181-177), PER 82pts (230-204), RIM 81pts (247-231), QUE 78pts (157-243), LAV 77pts (268-241), SOR 74pts (169-179), LON 74pts (163-235), SHE 67pts (189-246), VDO 60pts (151-213), BAC 54pts (114-228), TRE 53pts (133-215), RDL 51pts (157-220).

That's it. Là, y'a Val d'Or qui a réussi 7 blanchissages.

Meilleurs pointeurs :

Kari Pasipanen : 151-150-301
Mikka Pasipanen : 143-152-295
Anton Dahlin : 95-116-211
Richard Zuricha : 107-103-210
Jonathan Marcil : 58-99-157
Benoit Bourdain : 52-80-132
Karl Lemieux : 35-92-127
Ilia Beresnev : 63-60-123
Joe Rybar : 59-57-116
Sven Tumba : 57-53-110

Les buteurs : Kari, Mikka, Zuricha, Anton Dahlin, Beresnev, Rybar, Marcil, Tumba, Iannick Sauvé (55-55-110) et Neliganov (54-51-105).

Punitions : Suchmann 351 pim, Bourdain 348 pim, Gregg 293 pim, R Jones 255, Viravski 238

Hits : Nathan Philipps 271

FIGHT 15
HITS 55
PENALTY 35
GOAL 25
SHOTS 50

G/PJ 2.81 (C'est plus bas que prévu, peu d'impact du CK)
PP% 22.05% (trop haut, aucun impact)

SAG, BEA, RIM, PER
GAT 125pts (323-157), SAG 103pts (259-197), BEA 102 (279-174), MTL 100 (240-181), LAV 94 (286-227), SOR 91 (177-165), RIM 80 (190-201), PER 79 (170-197), TRE 75 (178-206), BAC 73 (157-198), ROU 65 (154-196), QUE 64 (169-235), SHE 64 (189-221), LON 57 (183-246), RDL 56 (149-218) et VDO 47 (141-225).

Meilleurs marqueurs :
Forest 77-74-151
Tumba 74-70-144
S Dahlin 64-64-128
Williams 57-53-110
Marcil 50-50-100
K Pasipanen 50-48-98
Lemieux 21-77-98
Chartier 51-46-97
Sauvé 48-49-97
A Dahlin 48-44-92

G/PJ 2.85 (OK)
PP% 22.8% (encore trop haut)
Shots/PJ 31.5 (OK)
PIM/PJ 12.08 (OK)
Hits/PJ 20.8 (OK)
%D shots 22.2% (un peu trop bas)
%D buts 13% (OK)
%D hits 34% (OK)

Alors voilà. Ca semble être la formule gagnante!

Meilleures équipes (buts pour, buts contre)
MTL 121pts (341-171), GAT 103 (217-155), BEA 101 (296-186), SAG 99 (279-208), LAV 89 (264-221), ROU 83 (166-163), SHE 82 (235-224), BAC 81 (177-186), RDL 78 (188-239), RIM 73 (213-239), PER 73 (167-209), SOR 70 (151-179), QUE 68 (183-218), VDO 59 (129-238), TRE 58 (124-178), LON 42 (142-258).

En séries : MTL, GAT, LAV, ROU.... BEA, SAG, SHE, BAC...

PP de 30% ou plus : MTL, LAV, SHE, GAT.

Meilleurs pointeurs :
K Pasipanen 83-80-163
T Beranek 60-82-142
S Dahlin 70-68-138
M Pasipanen 70-66-136
Johnson 66-61-127
A Dahlin 65-61-126
Williams 62-61-123
Chartier 61-57-118
Zuricha 60-58-118
Beresnev 52-47-99

I'll skip back in English. So I understand correctly, you are happy with engine with the exception of the PP, correct?

- PP is too high, whatever I'm doing.

- I need MAJOR adjustments to my ratings. Because I'm able to get the expected results of G/GP, Hits/GP, PIM/GP, but the distribution makes no sense to me. Some star players get 200 points and 100 goals. I'm not able to get that down, either.

Otherwise seems fine from what I've tested so far.
