3.4.0 - FTP connection

Does this error message indicate that I need to switch web host to get to use the FTP things?

It could be a bunch of problem.
Use the "Update Dynamic Website by HTTP" option instead.
Because in future version of STHS, I'll remove FTP function completely.

Okay. But will that option import lines, trades, and all that stuff?

By HTTP also!
All the users using the STHS integrated web hosting are using this only.
