Why isn't my team successful?

I can't seem to stop taking penalties. I have pretty good discipline and a solid Defense core along with a good top 6
I have switched my strategies around to accommodate the style I want each line to play. But yet third line (my shutdown line) is my worst in terms of +/-
I have made an attempt to not overuse star players and balance out the ice time with players.
But I cannot seem to get it together. I have one of the best teams in the league.
What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?
But yet teams line VAN on the same site I provided (terrible team) can't lose. I don't understand. Can anyone help to clarify?
