Goalie Ratings

Im wondering about the goalie ratings and their impact to the sim. A lot of ratings are described simply as "The higher the stat, better chance to stop a shot." in the manual. My question is, have the different stats a different impact on several occasions? Does the sim recognize different shots for example and then for one shot the goalies Hand Speed is used and for a different shot the sim uses Reaction Time? Or are the stats used alltogether the whole time?
