New Ratings System for Minors/Entry Draft Players

Last year we tinkered with the ideal of running a page with ratings for up and coming prospects. This adventure took hours upon days to do, but was well worth it in the end.

We decided that the original formula although good, was still a tad too high for some, and low for others.
After some retinkering a new system was put into place, and we think the OV ratings are pretty good right now.

The new rating system we are calling the EPSYS or Edwards Prospects System. This system will be free to use by everyone and will be updated twice a year, once after the entry draft and once after the trade deadline.

The basis of the system works with information found on HF and basic personal specs such as weight, age and HF ratings.

Here is the url for the scale used with suggested OV ratings for players coming into the 2006-2007 season.

Please feel free to use these suggested ov's at your discretion. Also any constructive critisism or suggestions are welcomed for sure. You can reply here or email me at [email protected].

Please if you have a malicious comment about the system keep it to yourself.

I see a comment about Crosby's OV though in French.. You must understand he gets 0 points for being 18 years old. Our suggested OV's were just starting points for leagues, now that he has a season under his belt my ratings will reflect his NHL stats in my league. Which will be much higher than the 74OV listed here. But this is to help new commissioners to get a general idea of where ratings should be so they don't get to far out of hand. We know they are not perfect but they are much better than some of the insane ratings I have seen for some players who haven't touched the ice in the NHL that are in some of these leagues. Atleast we used some kind of guide to establish our ratings instead of just throwing a number out there!
