Simulator Parameter

I would like to understand the impacts of the parameter setting on the game simulation. I have a very strong team (my three first lines are composed of first liner player and 4 of my Def are first Def in their HL team. I have a hard time keeping .500 and have a hard time winning against teams are half AHL players. -2 years in a row now.
I also noticed that the goal et have a great impact on the team that win.
What are the factor that can explain
