Penalty for playing guys out of position? Have you done it before?

I have a good young player that can only play center.

I have got him to 50 points before with a lot of PP time in the defense spot.
If I play him at center not matter how high or low in the lineup he gets kills in the dot. He is in the 40% range with just under 3000 attempts over three seasons.
Has anyone played a guy like this full time out of position?
