SDHL - Taking Applications

A Little Bit About Us...
  • We are a 30-team, forum based (i.e., non-portal) NHL re-rate league in between seasons 5 and 6.
  • We sim two SDHL seasons for every one NHL season, which means that we're more or less active year round, but with enough individual down time to keep us sane. We hope.
  • We employ a split draft (odds/evens) so that we have a draft every off-season. Let's face it, if you're reading this you are itching to be on the clock somewhere, somehow.
  • Each off-season teams are allowed to place the Franchise Tag on one of their own UFAs (beginning at age 27), while there are an unlimited number of RFA re-signings (up to age 26.5). While this system puts a restriction on the number of top end free agents in a given class, it adds a significant amount of trade value to your UFA-age players.
  • Re-signings are based off of NHL salaries with the ability to lower the SDHL cap hit via signing bonus. This is how we utilize cash in the SDHL. To best understand the value of a signing bonus you simply need imagine any NHL player with his current cap hit and then imagine him making less than that. Sounds better, right? Right.
Most importantly, the SDHL is a league that thrives off of GM interaction with a big emphasis on trading, or trade talks. The most successful GMs in the SDHL are typically the busiest.

Recently we've had a few GMs join but then disappear soon after. I guess it wasn't the right league for them. So how do you know it is the right league for you?
  1. Are you one of the most active GMs in your other leagues? If "yes" we'd love to have you join us. If "no" then the SDHL is probably too "busy" for your liking, though you're welcome to prove me wrong.
  2. Do you find yourself frustrated by GMs who take days to reply to your PMs, or worse yet, not reading them at all? If "yes", then know that you're not alone, and that housing communicative GMs is the top priority for the SDHL. If this sort of thing doesn't bother you then you should quit reading this and go reply to those private messages that have been sitting in your inbox since last week.
  3. Do you keep up with the NHL on at least a weekly basis? If "yes" then you might just be type of hockey fanatic we're looking for. If "no", then you would likely find yourself swimming with sharks, who were recently acquired from the Wild.
We've done a bit of off season house cleaning and have found ourselves with eight openings prior to UFA. Free Agency will begin once the league is at full capacity. Then it will be onto season 6!
