Re: Consistency in 2.1 engine
Totally agree on the ST-rating. If I remember correctly I used a bunch of different factors for that. Height and weight was part of it, but I also had fights and hitting influence the setting as well. Essentially Tie Domi likely being a fair bit stronger than other players his size (and also quite a...

Re: Consistency in 2.1 engine
At some point several years ago while I still had time to spend on this wonderful stuff I dug deep into the play-by-play data the Sim provides. The aim was to create essentially a visual simulation of the games, sort of similar to this: https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/Dah7T2zIfd3d8XyrECZvUN6nWHE=/14...

Re: Consistency in 2.1 engine
Pure snipers are extremely hard to create in my experience. Most of the goals in the Sim come from rebounds so I would think that has a lot to do with it. Players who shoot a lot will simply get quite a few assists by default. The other way around is much more common. Having forwards finish an 82 ga...

Re: Consistency in 2.1 engine
VERY cool stuff Savard! Obviously I have no insight into the rosters you're using, but in my experience running tests using different lines/teams will produce inconsistent results as the mechanisms are very sensitive to how lines and teams are put together. As a guess I would think Tkachuk was play...

Re: Huge disparity in points in engine 2.1
It's a game of averages. Sounds like the gap in talent between players at the top and bottom of the depth charts is quite large. Narrow the gap and the gap in points will do the same.
And it's not a simple matter of "inverse SK". It needs to be more sophisticated than that.

How about just explaing to managers how SK works? It's not rocket science.

Re: Réalisme des résultats dans vos ligues
As for the "DF influencing offense" debate: No it doesn't. There are other factors at play behind these stats: Joueur------------STATS--------------COTES----------------C----------LW-----------RW-----------D----------D------ John Tavares: 68GP-43G-42A-85P / 92SK 85PA 91SC 72DF (Tavares - K...

Re: Réalisme des résultats dans vos ligues
The "inverted SK" phenomenon is also something that is hard for GMs to accept. Usually that is down to them thinking SK is something it's not :) I will give a very brief example of how and why I use the "inverted SK" in my ratings. I will start this off by using two players in t...

Re: Possible to show where a player is when they take action?
Thanks a lot Simon! Worked like a charm. As for the data, I know it's not in the engine. I was just letting Kitsune know that it can be done externally and presented on a website as part of a custom boxscore. One could potentially use such data to create a graphic "simulation" of the simul...

Re: Possible to show where a player is when they take action?
It's possible to create this data even though it's not actually in the Simulation. I played around with it a long time ago and got it working really well where I could put up shot-charts and other stuff to make the game reports look at lot sexier. It also would provide a way to give each team more o...

Re: Players rating
It's not very difficult to explain that. The simulation is based on a decision making formula where the player will either skate with the puck, pass the puck or shoot the puck. Goals per game says absolutely nothing about what tendencies the player has. Going by goals per game reduces SC to a very s...

Re: Players rating
While the post above is very simplified (goals per game is a pretty poor measure of SC), the overall fact is that Danault is much more of a passer than the other two. Caggiula and Donato score almost twice as many goals per 20 minutes of ice-time as Danault, while also shooting the puck with much hi...

Re: Dedicated rating for the 2.1 engine
SK, ST and PH are part of the "avoid being hit" formula. I may be remembering it wrong, it's been a number of years since I ran the tests after all. It could also be that I'm getting the different engines mixed up and it was one of the earlier models where the correlation between hits tak...
