Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
The EX, LD Rating of the AHL Goalies seem to be very high.

Is there any ready Ratings available for this season? For V2?
Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
I have noticed a few odd things the main one being Malkin's Faceoff rating. It is a 93 where Stoll is a 94 I believe yet both him and Malkin too around 1200 faceoffs but Stoll won 55% of his and Malkin won only 47.5% of his, but their faceoff rating is basically the same. I used the rereater you have on your website and downloaded it plugged the numbers in there but it did not come out to being even close to 94 for Passing. So please let me know the reasoning for this or if this is an error with the faceoff calculations.

Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
I think you should look closely at the EX rating. There are a lot of ratings that don't make sense so I am thinking there was a miscalculation or a simple error:
Mikko Koivu 94
Semin 91
Ovechkin 88
Regin 87
Kopitar 84
Yet for some long time veterans:
Martin St-Louis 88, Vinny Prospal 72, Erik Cole 82.
Mikko Koivu 94
Semin 91
Ovechkin 88
Regin 87
Kopitar 84
Yet for some long time veterans:
Martin St-Louis 88, Vinny Prospal 72, Erik Cole 82.

Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
Can we get an idea of how ST was calculated? I remember at one time, ST was a formula based on height and weight only. Is there something else being used to generate this value?
i.e. Why is Byfuglien's ST lower than Shae Weber and Josh Gorges?
Byfuglien = Height 6'-4" -- Weight 257 lbs ST = 88
Weber = Height 6'-4" -- Weight 234 lbs ST = 99
Gorges = Height 6'-1" -- Weight 190 lbs ST = 99 ????

Read the STHS manual. ST now has to do with strength on your skates, being less likely to be hit, etc.

Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
That's all well and good but how is this value determined? What stats are used? Are hits added? DF? Or is it someone arbitrarily saying that player should have higher ST "just because"? I remember when SimHL ratings were first introduced that the author wanted stats-based, measurable and repeatable ratings. I'm hoping this is still the case.Marc the Habs Fan wrote:Read the STHS manual. ST now has to do with strength on your skates, being less likely to be hit, etc.
The argument I'm having with one of my GMs is that Byfuglien should not be a player who can be pushed around because he's a big (fat even? ) piece of beef. He's practically unmovable in front of the net. I have to justify why his ST is lower than Josh Gorges'. If I can point to the values that were used, it ends the argument.

Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
ALL RATINGS are based on STATS and ONLY STATS !!
ST is ... Read the STHS manual. ST now has to do with strength on your skates, being less likely to be hit, etc.
so as you say ..Byfuglien should not be a player who can be pushed around because he's a big (fat even? ) piece of beef.
if he is FAT ..he is slow.. if he is slow he can get hit more then someone who is faster on his skates.
like any other set of ratings not all ratings are 100% accurate but the Simhl ratings try and be as accurate as possible with the stats of the players.
for the EX. I agree some do look a little funny but EX and LD are very hard to do with stats.
EX ratings for Simhl take into consideration the number of years played as well as championships won
over the career of the player (Pro and Minors) also the number of games played in special events like
Olympics,World Championships and others like that.
if anyone doesnt agree with the Simhl Ratings, you are all free to make the changes you want to the ratings
or even use different ones

Re: SIMHL 2012 Ratings
Hi Stephane,
Please understand that I am not complaining about the ratings. Our league has used them for years and there has never been an issue. I love that they are STATS based and that no subjective ratings get used.
I do have to justify to my GMs how certain ratings are derived. The manual offers a description of the rating but does not provide me with the stats used to generate the rating. At one time, there was a spreadsheet that showed exactly what calculations got used to generate a rating like ST. I could point to that spreadsheet and input my own numbers to confirm is a rating was correct. ST was once a calculation based on weight and height only. It was dead easy to verify. Now I'm in the dark.
You say Byfuglien is fat and therefor slow and easy to hit. Exactly what stat helps predict that? Is it Hits Taken? If so, I can tell my GMs that and they will leave me alone. Again, this is not a complaint or a request to get you to change the rating is indeed correct. This is simply a request to know what stats actually get used.
