ERROR: You are running an out of date version

I never update the sim in the middle of a season, because it usually causes problems. Also if there are any sim changes mid-season they might affect games.

But today when I tried to run the sim as usual, I get the error message:

You are running an out of date version of SimonT Hockey Simulator V2!

And then the sim closes. I should not have to update the software in order to keep using a perfectly good version that has been working for us this season.

Had this happen today as well.

I'm with you in not updating in the middle of a season.

We have been quite happy with how V2.7.7 has been running and do not want to update. Will we now be forced to update to continue our season?

Every year, it’s the same thing. The old STHS build have expiration date and you must download the latest build (2.2.3).

I merge topic also.

Well that kind of sucks, I did not want to update to the new html pages and new version yet :x :( :roll:

Is there nothing you can do to reverse this?

Upgrading to the new version means I have to re-design the entire league website to accomodate the new html pages with the sortable columns. I was not prepared for this and now have hours of work ahead of me (which I don't have time for right now) or I have to put the season on hold for a while until I do find the time.

I really see no logical reason why we wouldn't be able to continue using an old version.

Simon,
As you told us there is no choice but to change versions of the sim to get around this bug, I updated to the 2.3.3 (latest version). As I suspected, there were problems. The first one showed up immediately: the XML format has changed for Transactions.xml.

Now I have to spend the evening re-coding so that my website continues to work as expected.

Of course this is only the first problem I've found, I won't be surprised if there are other small changes that cause problems.


I would urge you to please stop putting an expiry date on versions of the sim. It is very frustrating.

I always to try to update just before I start a new season of my league and I don't think it is unreasonable that I should be able to run that same version for the whole season.

As one of the people impacted by this last year and quoted in the old threads I'm still baffled by why we're forced to do this. If we don't want to update in the middle of a season we shouldn't be forced to. Especially when the update will cause as much extra work as this one does.

So existing, legitimate customers have to suffer in a vain attempt to stop a few kids from stealing? There's got to be a better way. I spent several hours dealing with the format of the transactions XML changing in the middle of the season. Not only is the date no longer part of the transaction, but it's now in a different timezone!! Ugh...

People who steal from a tiny software developer are the lowest of the low, don't get wrong. I think they should suffer. Not the paying customers.

Let's find another way to stop piracy than this method. Someone must have a cloud/client product that is similar to Microsoft's KMS server.

What I don't get is we are only one minor version behind!

3.08!!! Can we roll out 3.09 client to all coaches and still run 3.08 simulator at same time without issue?

I tried 3.09 client and it worked opening up the league file.

So I think we can finish off the season using simulator 3.0.8.11

It could be better to force update on summer instead.. this is very frustrating. We are using v2.3.3.1, which version do I must to update?! I must pay for it probably...
