Full Name in play by play

Post by Ultimate Hockey League »

Excellent list Simon, thanks for the job well done.

One thing I noticed in the play by play is that it does not identify which team the player is on. This can cause confusion when there are players of the same name on the ice on different teams (i.e. there are two Cory Stillmans.) I was wondering if this could be added on easily, as this helps those of us who parse the box scores and put them into a database.

Thanks!

It can but I'll make the play by play bigger (By a good 15-25%) and longer to read. I'm not totally sure the benefits overcome the disadvantage.

I understand what you're saying, and it's a very valid point. I guess an option would be nice. I noticed that I am not the only one here who scrapes the box scores and puts them into the DB, so maybe there are others who are doing the same......if you can, it would be nice.

Thanks again.

I'm starting to lack space in my file (.sh1, sh2, .sh3) for new option. When I start, I gave myself a buffer to create new option but the buffer is getting really small so I prefer to keep it for bugs fixed or really good suggestions. :|

Why not add a new file? Four wouldnt be that bothersome imo, or maybe just make more room in the 3? I have a .sh2 file thats nearing 700kb....

Then, I would have 2 types of league file; something completely unacceptable for me.

The alternate option would be outputting the box scores in XML and attributing the player with the STHS playerid (I believe that is the role of <number> in the rosters XML output). This would allow all leagues with a database to import the box score straight into their DB. Given that the infrastructure is there for XML output with Rosters and all of the other daily updated files, would this require a new league file?

That might happen in V2. I'm not sure yet. ;)
