Disallowed goal question...

Post by dechl »

One of my owners had a question about a disallowed goal:

3:43 of 3rd period - Slapshot by Roman Josi. 3:43 of 3rd period - Deflect By Dmitry Kulikov. 3:43 of 3rd period - Predators goal is going for a video replay. 3:43 of 3rd period - The goal is refused. The puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick.. "

So his player Josi, shot the puck. It hit Kulikov (plays for other team) and goes in.... Looks like a good goal from the play by play.... any ideas?

You can deflect a goal with your stick where the ticket is too high.

??? Ticket too high? Would a deflection not show up in the logs though or are you saying the deflection by the other team was a high stick or whatever?

Ticket = Stick. Sorry. Are you saying Dmitry Kulikov is not in the same team that Roman Josi?

Ah. I'm looking at this and it brings me memory. There are 9 possibly for a goal to be refused. Here is a list.

The puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick.
The puck has been kicked using a distinct kicking motion.
The attacking player has interfered with a goalkeeper in his goal crease.
The puck has entered the net after making contact with an attacking player’s stick that is above the height of the crossbar.
The goalkeeper has been pushed into the net together with the puck after making a save.
The net was displaced accidentally.
The referee deems the play has been stopped, even if he had not physically had the opportunity to stop play by blowing his whistle.
The puck has deflected directly into the net off by an official.
The goal has been scored and an ineligible player is on the ice.

Because it’s fairly rare for a goal to be refused, I never create logic in the code to tell exactly what happen. In your example, I could have simply written that player on the ice thrown the puck into the net with his gloves after the deflection. But as I said, creating logic for the 9 possibility is too long and painful for the number of time the code will run in a season.

I hope you understand.
