PO (potential) understanding

Post by jwr38 »

I am in a re-rate league (i.e. fake players) that uses the PO to rate players.

I have used the search function to gain some understanding but I am still not sure. From what I can see is that players are re-rated based on how they preformance. IF this is the case then how does the PO work? if the PO is high does that mean there is more of a chance of him going up in ratings than if he has a low PO?

for example
player 1 has 50 PO
player 2 has 80 PO

Player1 played 30 games and scores 20 goals and 20 assists
player2 played 30 games and scores 20 goals and 20 assists.

does player 2 get a larger boost?

what if player 2 plays on a lower line (developing) and gets less points. Does he still rerate well? (I am thinking of high young PO players) Or is it all based on their stats?

How about skills going down? I have some star players in their 30's. will their ratings drop even if they are playing well? I am not sure what factors there are go a player to develop.

Hi.

The formula is based on Point Per 10 Minutes.

For two players with the same Point Per 10 Minutes, the one with a higher PO will get a boost.

All players who play at least 1 game get rated.

Age is factor for some skill (Skating, Strengh, Experience, Leadership, etc) but not PA, SC, DF, FO, etc. (Basically, the one I can calculate by using their stat)

so it is based on the team and not the league? So if I have a stacked team with lots of young talented players on the lower lines they will not progress as much as a player getting more ice time on a crap team?

oh does size and weight play a major factor? It seems my league has lots of 5'6 players in the juniors. they are the best scorers but if it has a major impact then they aren't going to be as good in the pros.

It's based on league.

Size and Weight play a major factor in some stat only, ST for example.

If just based on points / 10 minutes, what about defensive players? I have both defensive d and defensive forwards... will they be penalized in development?

In terms or rerates.

Therefore, would an offensive defenceman who is putting up massive points, but doesn't see his own end, have a distinct benefit from a Scott Stevens kind of guy that doesn't put up points, but is very, very solid defensively as a defenceman, even if they have the same PO?

Does the defensive player have less opportunity to rerate up because he doesn't put up significant points (but is still very good, very valuable, and should grow into a Mike Peca/Rod Langway role)?

If the rerate is based on Points per 10 minutes, and PO, what about defensive specialists?

(more clear?)

Although I have no suggestion to fix this, it is something to consider. I've been in several leagues dominated by offensive guys, but every NHL fan knows that defensive guys are just as key, especially at the D position. This may turn into another sim that just loads up offensive guys and lets the defensive specialists die off.

It's already consider but I only have the +/- stat to help me with rerate, that is not totally reliable.

so it is best to play all out offense then? As the rerates are based off that. I currently have a team with fake players that are the best in defence as I am playing that style. I have he horses to play lights out offense but I wanted a tough team to play. If the re reates are based of league wide stats and not how you played as a team ... should I switch to going all out offense (if I keep winning . why not huh)?

What about farm vs pro? If you play your top guys on the farm, and they absolutely light it up for insane amounts of points, do they automatically get massive rereates (especially if they are young with good PO)?

Or is there some consideration of the farm stats?

(in our league, we counted farm points as 1/4 of a pro point)

Farm Players are compare to Farm Players Average. If they light up insane amounts of points vs others farm players, they will get a massive rerates.

Are D compared to D, and forwards compared to forwards, or are all skaters compared to each other?
