Overall Standings ...

Post by Kitsune »

Can someone explain to me why the division leaders are seeded in the overall standings even though the NHL doesnt do it?

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page ... e&type=LEA

I wish to have an option to display the overall standings like the NHL does - that is without having the division leaders seeded ....

Because of the way I output the Standings ;)

If it really kill you, I cannot remove the seeding from the overall standing.

Does it affect the way the teams are ordered for the entry draft.

Or do the new rules (as in the NHL) for the entry draft fix this ?

ok thats understandable ....

Then how about full compatibility to leagues that use a 3 points for a win, 2 points for a OT/SO win and 1 point for a OT/SO loss, so the standings would look something like this:

W - L - OW - OL

And have everything outputted reflect that, instead of the current spread out standings and only OTL being reported everywhere else, as that leads to some massive holes when it comes to goalie statistics. I know the CSV outputs OT/SO wins and losses for goalies, so why not the html pages?

I use the NHL Standing output (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page ... e&type=CON)

Yes, but its badly inaccurate when the Euro-Style Points style are being used.

Remove the "Output Standard Standing", I'll give you the full standing.

But it still truncates the goalie stats. See ....
http://www.russianhockeyinsider.com/stands.html

That shows how a Euro style points system standings is done - the shootout and OT columns should really be combined.

Also....
http://www.glidingeagle.com/geha/year6/ ... nding.html

The amount of information missing in the standings is amazing - not only do you end up with inflated columns with data that could easily be combined, but the two OTL and SOL columns in the home last 10 and regular last 10 could easily be combined and a combined OT/SO wins and OT/SO loses shown instead. And every league that uses a Euro point style is suffering because the standings are not accurately reflecting the points system.

And furthermore....
http://www.glidingeagle.com/geha/year6/ ... oring.html

Goalie stats are only tell us - W L OTL . With a Euro style point system again another critical piece is missing, the OTW's. What good is it if Euro point style leagues only give 2 points for a OT win (compared to the 3 for a regulation win) and the sim doesnt bother giving us that info.

The sim was kind enough to give us the option of a Euro points style, but the effect is muted because the sim doesnt bother fully supporting it.

1) Sadly, I cannot output every league standing that exist.

2) When I create the sim, I didn't know about all those OT/SO lost for goalie so I didn't create variable for them. You'll have to wait for version 2.

I'd be interested in how the draft order is affected too, Simon.

On the old and news entry draft rules, division seeding affect the draft order.
